Alfalfa can also be used in poultry rations, providing protein, beta-carotene, and trace minerals. Beta-carotene is a precursor of Vitamin A, which is essential for egg hatchability and healthy chicks. A good way to provide that to your hens if they don't have access to pasture is by adding alfalfa pellets to their rations by crushing them into a meal.
